Situated between its big brothers Lake Como and Lake Garda, Lake Iseo has remained largely untouched by mass tourism and its excesses. Which is not to say that this picturesque spot is always devoutly quiet. No, there is sometimes chaos on the streets, especially in August, and tourists clog up the narrow alleyways of the lakeside villages. But let's be honest: who wants to drink their cappuccino in a deserted café on a deserted piazza? In comparison to Lake Garda, however, Lago d'Iseo is spared the "Man spricht Deutsch" signs.
For an Alpine lake, the Iseo is deep. At just 185 metres above sea level, its waves splash against the steep banks. This benefits the climate, which spoils visitors to the fourth largest of the northern Italian lakes with mild temperatures. And cyclists who love climbing. There are impressive differences in altitude to the surrounding passes. The Colle San Zeno, which is only 1,434 metres high compared to major Alpine passes, grows in stature when you know that an impressive 1,250 metres in altitude await you up to its summit.
