A rewarding destination off the main routes: the passes of the Belluno Dolomites
The Dolomites - the famous passes of the Sella Tour usually spring to mind, perhaps the nearby climbs to the Passo di Giau and Fedaia. But there are a few more attractive passes - and difficult ones at that! For example the Passo Duran in the Belluno Dolomites.

The Passo Duran leads up to 1,601 metres, a steep crossing that connects the small town of Agordo in the Cordevole valley with the Val di Zoldo, which is also known as the valley of the Gelatieri, the ice cream makers, because many ice cream makers - including those based in Germany - come from there. The distances and metres in altitude on the Duran don't sound very spectacular; its northern ramp measures just eight kilometres. However, those who are prepared for a leisurely, enjoyable ride will be surprised immediately after the turn-off in Dont.

In the village, the road takes a turn and a 14 per cent steep ramp follows, which suddenly destroys any momentum. The only thing that helps here is to downshift, because the thing drags on for four kilometres.
