The Col de Chaussy (1,532 m) in the Maurienne region is a dream come true for fans of hairpin bends. In the first four kilometres alone, there are 18 tightly winding hairpin bends. On the rest of the route to the top of the pass, there are another 14, spread out in small groups over nine kilometres. The only downside: crossing the pass is not recommended for racing cyclists, as the tarmac ends at the top of the pass. The gravel road that follows resembles a hellish piste full of potholes. Only after three kilometres does an asphalt ribbon begin again, which leads into the southern ramp of the Col de la Madeleine after a further five kilometres.
