As if hewn with an axe: the picture-book Kerbtal valley on the steep eastern side of the Hahntennjoch.
Erik Zabel certainly has fond memories of the Hahntennjoch (1,894 m): in 2006, he and Sebastian Lang crossed the pass in first place on stage 6 of the Tour of Germany, more than eight minutes ahead of the peloton.

Otherwise, the pros avoided the pass that connects the Tyrolean Lechtal valley with the upper Inntal valley - the Hahntennjoch has never been on the programme of the Tour of Austria. Wrongly so, because the steep pass road, which was only opened in 1969, leads through one of the few untouched natural landscapes in the Alps. Only for the cyclists of the TOUR-Transalp has the western side often been the executioner on the way south. They always climbed from the Lechtal valley, south of Elmen, into the narrow Bschlabertal valley, where the first two kilometres are a steep ramp of up to 13 per cent.
