Shortly before the breather at the Zirmstadl reservoir, it's time to get out of the saddle again!
The road that winds its way up the western slope of the Zillertal does not climb over a pass into another valley, but only up 2,020 metres.

The pass road dances there, only to soon plunge steeply down again. The mountain road was once a gravel track, built to supply the high alpine pastures. Around 50 years ago, the road was surfaced with tarmac and tolls help to keep it in good condition.

A total of five ascents lead up from the valley. For full visual enjoyment, we recommend the ascent via the northernmost ramp from Ried. Then you climb over the Zirmstadl reservoir at 1,740 metres above sea level, continuing over the highest point of the road at 2,020 metres, the Melchboden, to the southernmost ramp, which leads back down into the Zillertal to Hippach.

You can find the entire passport profile as a PDF download below.
