The young Tübingen rider Marius Mayrhofer (Team DSM) achieved a remarkable result in the prologue, which was held on road bikes, in seventh place, while Jannik Steimle (Soudal - Quick Step) finished eighth.

The first stage on Wednesday over 149.9 kilometres with start and finish in Tanunda will probably be something for the sprinters. The tour ends after five stages on Sunday on Mount Lofty east of Adelaide. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the race has not been part of the Tour in the past two years. UCI World Tour have been held. Defending champion Richie Porte has now ended his career.
