The Tour de Romandie is held annually at the end of April or beginning of May and is regarded as an important preparation race for the upcoming Grand Tours Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. There are many metres in altitude to conquer and time trial skills to prove. There are two of these, the first of which is a very short time trial as part of the prologue.
Tour de Romandie 2025 - Favourites: Evenepoel returns from injury break
Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) will be the centre of attention at this year's event. He left a mixed impression at the Ardennes Classics - incredibly strong and on top of his game at the Amstel Gold Race, but fell short of expectations a week later at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Tour de Romandie will show whether the Belgian is ready for the Tour de France and whether there could be a clash with Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) and Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike). But João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) is also a hot candidate for victory, as is the young Oscar Onley (Team Picnic PostNL). Last year's winner Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers) will also try to be among the front runners, even if he has yet to achieve a top result this calendar year. Meanwhile, Lenny Martinez (Bahrain - Victorious), David Gaudu (Groupama - FDJ), Stefan Küng (Groupama - FDJ), Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana Team), Clément Champoussin (XDS Astana Team) and Lennert van Eetvelt (Lotto) also have a chance of finishing on the podium.
Tour de Romandie 2025: The route with all stages and elevation profiles at a glance
Five stages and a prologue - so why only just under 680 kilometres? This question quickly arises. The answer is that there are two time trials. Both the start and finish are time trials, with four days of ups and downs in between. The perfect test for the GC riders to get a first indication of where they currently stand. Not at all insignificant for the big tours that are still to come this year...
