The Lukmanier Pass in Switzerland
In addition to its famous neighbour Gotthard, the Lukmanier Pass (1,915 m) also leads from the main Alpine ridge to the south.

In the Middle Ages, the road linking the valley of the Vorderrhein with Ticino was even considered the most important north-south connection in Switzerland. Later, a railway line was even planned over the Passo del Lucomagno, as it is called in Italian, but this was never realised. This has allowed the valleys to retain a certain unspoilt character to this day. The section between Olivone in the south and the top of the pass is one of the most beautiful routes in Switzerland.
