Even the Tour de Suisse has discovered the Glaubenbielen Pass (1,611 metres) for the first time this year. The low-traffic road leads through a picture-book Swiss landscape: cows chew their cud on lush green mountain pastures against the backdrop of the partly snow-covered main Alpine ridge. Magnificent farmhouses with low-pitched roofs are scattered throughout the valley. With an even gradient of more than eight per cent, the east ramp from Giswil is a serious challenge. On the much longer north-west ramp, over which the Tour de Suisse peloton also climbed during the final stage on 17 June, the backdrop of the Brienzer Rothorn is somewhat more alpine.
