The Vuelta a Espana 2023 is on the professional cycling calendar from 26 August to 17 September. The 21 stages of the 78th edition will take the riders from Barcelona over more than 3100 kilometres to Madrid. This is the 7th stage.

Stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana 2023 takes the riders from Utiel, which was already the starting point of the Vuelta in 2003, via the city of Valencia further south to Oliva, which is located on the west coast. The race covers 200.8 kilometres and includes an intermediate sprint.

The starting point of Utiel is around two hours by car from yesterday's finish, the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre, and lies at an altitude of just under 700 metres. The stage takes the riders almost exclusively downhill for around 120 kilometres before they reach the coast in Valencia. From there, the route is flat along the coast via the intermediate sprint classification, which is 34 kilometres before the finish, to the finish town of Oliva. The Tour of Spain 2023 will be the first time the 200-kilometre mark has been exceeded.

From Valencia, the route is flat for 120 kilometres to the finish in Oliva. As there are no mountain classifications beforehand and the profile there is mostly downhill, it should not be a problem for the sprinter teams to control the breakaways. Only the wind on the coast could disrupt the plans of one or two teams. Nevertheless, a bunch sprint is inevitable.

Sporting assessment of the 7th stage

Between two exhausting days for the classification riders, a quieter day has now been scheduled, on which they can recover a little. The sprinters should have no problems controlling the breakaways on the flat terrain. Team Alpecin-Deceuninck with its top sprinter Kaden Groves, among others, could therefore have a good chance in stage 7.

Schedule, TV coverage & live stream of stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana 2023

The peloton will set off at 12:50, with the sharp start at around 12:57. The calculated finish in Oliva, which is the finish of a Vuelta stage for the first time, should be between 17:18 and 17:43 at an average speed of around 44 kilometres per hour.
