Rolf Aldag's assessment: A day for the green jersey

The Tour organisers are highlighting this stage because it is the first time that the Tour of France has visited Moulins, the prefecture of the Allier department - the Tour has never stopped here before. Now all the prefectures of mainland France have been ticked off.

Today's stage is clearly set for a sprint finish. Of course, breakaways will make their presence felt in the early parts of the stage. But the sprinters have marked out today for themselves. The approach to the course of the Allier river is very straightforward, the finishing straight after the bridge without any surprises. It's 900 metres south into the town centre, where the powerhouses venture into the wind in the final metres and chase for points.

The battle for the green jersey is likely to be in full swing and this stage is key. It is also the last opportunity until next Thursday for sprinter teams to take control of the race.

For TOUR, the 54-year-old sports manager has once again scrutinised the elevation profiles and march tables of this year's Tour de France.

How do you like this article?

In his predictions, he names the teams and riders he sees at the front on each day, assesses the difficulties of the routes and says where he expects attacks and from whom. Will there be a bunch sprint? Will a breakaway group make it to the finish? Aldag also assesses for TOUR what role each stage plays for the classification jerseys: The more coloured jerseys our expert assigns to a stage, the greater their significance for the respective classification. The yellow jersey symbolises the weight of the stage in the overall classification, the green jersey stands for the importance of the best sprinter in the points classification and the red dotted jersey for the mountain classification, i.e. for the best climber. With these first-hand predictions, you can follow the TV broadcasts well informed and with profit!
