The new route of the Schwalbe-TOUR-Transalp powered by SIGMA for 2011 has been decided shortly before the starting places are allocated on 1 December. Next year, from 26 June to 2 July, 1,200 cycling enthusiasts will ride seven daily stages from Sonthofen in Germany over a total of 936 kilometres, 20,124 metres in altitude and 22 Alpine passes to Arco in Italy.
The route and elevation profiles are now available at www.tourtransalp.de available. The ninth edition of the Schwalbe-TOUR-Transalp powered by SIGMA leads the participants from the starting point in Sonthofen via Imst and Ischgl through Austria and then to Italy via Naturns, Livigno, Ponte di Legno and Kaltern to Arco, near Lake Garda.
"In 2011, the race will once again lead over a very attractive, but also challenging route with breathtaking panoramas. In addition to the Hahntennjoch, the Silvretta High Alpine Road, the Reschen Pass and the 2,753 metre high Stilfserjoch, the highest asphalted pass in the Eastern Alps, await the participants," reveals Uli Stanciu, route manager of the Alpine Crossing.
The number of starting places is limited to 1,200. The allocation of starting places for 2011 begins on 1 December 2010 at 12 noon on www.tourtransalp.de.
