The tenth edition of the Schwalbe-TOUR-Transalp powered by Sigma takes the participants from the German starting point in Mittenwald to Sölden in Austria. The route then continues to Italy via Brixen, St. Vigil, Falcade, Crespano del Grappa and Trento to the Italian town of Arco, near Lake Garda.
"In our anniversary year, in addition to well-known highlights such as the Timmelsjoch and parts of the Sella Ronda, participants can also expect new challenges such as Monte Grappa, known as a stage of the Giro d'Italia, and the legendary Monte Bondone, on which cycling legend Charly Gaul completed his hussar ride in the 1956 Giro d'Italia," reveals Ulli Stanciu, route manager of the Crossing of the Alps.
From 24 June to 30 June 2012, 1,200 cycling enthusiasts will set off from Mittenwald in Germany to cover a total of 806 kilometres and 19,091 metres in altitude over 17 Alpine passes in seven daily stages. The online allocation of the coveted starting places will begin on 1 December at 12 noon CET on www.tourtransalp.de .
