Dan Hooper is always happy to tell his little story - in fact, every time the subject of saddles comes up. Before his job as head mechanic at the TOUR laboratory, the American-born salesman spent many years in various bike shops. Hooper: "People held the saddle under their buttocks with both hands to try it on and tried to check the fit by gyrating their hips." Some even lay down on the floor in a kind of balancing act. "Worth seeing as an acrobatic act, but completely useless for trying out a saddle," recalls the TOUR mechanic with a broad grin.
Well, not like that. But how do you find the right saddle? Many cyclists like to have a nice saddle that fits their bike - that's fine, but it's much more important that it fits their bum. 100 grams less weight may be an argument for tuning freaks; road cyclists who spend many, many hours in the saddle and want to reach the end of their tour without pain and numbness usually don't care. everyone sits differently Why it can be so difficult to find a saddle that fits is quickly explained: everyone is different. Of course, everyone has blood vessels and nerves running through the sensitive perineal area, which can hurt and feel numb if they are pinched off by too much or too long saddle pressure. But for whom and with which saddle this happens depends on the individual anatomy as well as the riding position.
