Fizik advertised the original Arione in the early 2000s with the slogan "The longest in the peloton". Now the long saddle is making a comeback with five models in a new design. The two Adaptive models R1 and R3 come from the 3D printer in line with the latest trends. The lightest model is called R1 Light and costs 199 euros. The R3 and R5 models are cheaper. The latter costs just under 90 euros.

Both the Arione R1 and R3 Adaptive models utilise 3D-printed padding. This process allows the density and structure of the material to be varied zone by zone. This creates areas with different levels of cushioning that are customised to the rider's stress points. The open-pored construction can also improve air circulation - an advantage on long or intensive rides.

Structure and choice of material

The basis is a carbon-reinforced nylon shell that ensures rigidity and dimensional stability. It is designed to support power transmission without adding unnecessary weight. The frame of the R1 uses carbon struts, which further reduce the overall weight and dampen vibrations. The combination of shell, adaptive padding and carbon rails results in a saddle that is designed for lightweight construction and durability. The R3 has a metal frame, which is very robust, but also somewhat heavier.

Field of application

The Arione Adaptive models are for sporty riders who cover long distances or regularly take part in competitions. The zoned padding is designed to relieve pressure points without compromising efficiency. This makes the saddle suitable for anyone who values precisely customised support and a modern material construction.

The R1 Light, the lightweight

The Arione R1 Light The Arione models R3 and R5 are based on the classic design of the original Arione and utilise a metal frame instead of carbon. Despite the more robust construction, they are only around 20 and 30 grams heavier than the 3D-printed top versions R1 and R3 Adaptive. Both saddles retain the flat, long profile, which allows plenty of freedom of movement and supports sporty riding positions. The R3 uses a reinforced nylon shell with lightweight Kium struts, while the R5 relies on a simpler metal frame.

Classic design for R3 and R5

For riders looking for proven technology at a more moderate price, the R3 and R5 remain attractive alternatives, offering plenty of freedom of movement forwards and backwards and thus facilitating the balance between comfort and an efficient riding position. Injected EVA padding provides thin, reactive cushioning without altering the ergonomic shape. The R1-Light construction combines a carbon-reinforced nylon shell with stiff carbon struts, which saves weight and enables direct power transmission. The saddle is therefore aimed at sporty riders who are looking for a lightweight, stable platform for long and fast rides.
