The Liv bike brand is part of the Giant Group. But anyone who thinks that Liv bikes are just small Giant bikes is mistaken. Liv has its own development department. At the same time, being part of Giant means that it has access to their technologies.
The Langma series is the versatile performance road bike line from the women's bike brand Liv. It offers bikes for ambitious female racing cyclists. In the third generation, the Langma has been revised and is said to have optimised aerodynamics and an improved stiffness-to-weight ratio, both uphill and downhill. The third generation of the high-end Langma Advanced SL 0 model is said to be 123 grams lighter than its predecessor - but according to the manufacturer, bottom bracket stiffness and torsional stiffness have been increased at the same time.
"At Liv, we are revolutionising women's cycling with bikes that offer uncompromising performance. The new Langma is designed for those who demand peak performance, whether they're pushing their limits in training or fighting for victory in a race. This bike isn't just about riding, it's about redefining what's possible," says Cassondra Spring, Global Brand Manager at Liv Cycling.
The Langma Advanced SL 0 is said to be 12.57 watts more efficient. The overall package of advances in carbon technology, tube shaping and internal cable routing together with a redesigned handlebar, stem and wheel system all contribute to this. This can make a difference in the race, no matter what class.
In the Langma series, the individual components and the frame were not developed individually, but rather the frame, wheels, cockpit and other key components were designed together. After all, they should function as a system.
The cockpit of the new Langma Advanced SL and Advanced Pro models features the OverDrive Aero head tube, which is designed to provide improved control and precision. The setup includes the newly designed Giant Contact SLR/SL AeroLight stem and the Liv Contact SLR or SL handlebars with internal cable routing. The integration of top cap, cables and spacers aims to create a more aerodynamic and user-friendly setup that allows for flexible positioning and easy maintenance access while offering the benefits of integrated components.
With the Langma Advanced SL series, Liv relies on an integrated seatpost that reduces weight, improves aerodynamics and provides more compliance, i.e. comfort. The other two series, Advanced Pro and Advanced, are fitted with a specially developed seatpost, which is intended to offer a good balance between low weight, aerodynamic performance and compliance as well as easy saddle assembly and adjustment.
Depending on the model, the Langma series comes with Cadex or Giant wheel systems. There is space for tyres up to 33 millimetres wide, 28 millimetres wide tyres are fitted.
In the new Langma series, Liv uses a specially developed carbon material that is manufactured in the company's own production facilities. Precise cutting and the minimised use of materials make it possible to reduce the weight of the frame without sacrificing stiffness and aerodynamics, as Liv promises. The most significant increases in stiffness result from the modified areas of the head tube, down tube and bottom bracket area.
All tube shapes were developed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling and wind tunnel testing to reduce drag coefficients over a wider range of angles. The complete system, including frame, fork, cockpit and wheelset, was optimised in the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad, Germany, at a wind speed of 40 km/h and using a dynamic mannequin.
The Liv AlUla Jayco team presents the Langma Advanced SL at the women's Giro d'Italia, followed by the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwiftwhere Liv is the main sponsor and sponsor of the white jersey for the best young rider.
The Langma Advanced Pro and Advanced series are the all-rounders for road racing and seasonal riding. They offer all the design advantages of the Advanced SL, combined with components built for all-day use on the road.
The Langma series comprises three model ranges: the Langma Advanced SL, the Langma Advanced Pro and the Langma Advanced. Each model was developed, designed and tested in collaboration with the Liv team of product developers, designers and athletes, including the Liv AlUla Jayco women's WorldTour team.
Langma Advanced 1 and 2 are available immediately, the Advanced Pro 0 from the end of July, the Advanced Pro 1 from the beginning of July and the Advanced SL 0 will be available until mid-August.
