Schwalbe's puncture pump has some features that could make it a favourite for the jersey pocket. Weighing just 53 grams, the anodised aluminium tool looks stylish and sits comfortably in the hand; the pump can be locked so that it does not come undone in the jersey or when removing it. The pump head is suitable for Sclaverand and car valves; you just have to turn the rubber seal round and adjust the order of the individual parts. However, we didn't manage to unscrew the pump head by hand; you need pliers to do this and run the risk of scratching the black surface.
Both rubber inserts sit positively on the respective valves and can be additionally tensioned with the small blue lever on the pump head so that the head does not slip off when pumping. This works relatively reliably - but assumes that you don't show any motor weaknesses during inflation, which requires stamina; we needed around 400 pump strokes to get a 28-millimetre tyre up to 3.5 bar suitable for rolling home, which takes around three minutes if you keep at it. But then the angular end of the 12.9 centimetre long pump, which is actually quite handy, starts to squeeze noticeably in the palm of your hand. The manufacturer states that the pump can deliver up to 6 bar. The scope of delivery includes a nine gram clamp holder with Velcro strap (and screws), which can be attached to the bottle cage. The manufacturer's recommended retail price is 34.90 euros, and the pump is available from accessory retailers from around 24.90 euros.
