Silca, a manufacturer of high-end bicycle accessories and lubricants, is launching two electric pumps on the market with the Elettrico Micro and Elettrico Ultimate models. The pumps fit easily into a jersey pocket or saddle bag. According to Silca, they achieve the performance of a floor pump. According to the manufacturer, the motors used are similar to those used in drones. As a result, the pumps should be able to inflate a tyre in around 30 seconds.

Digital precision

The Silca Elettrico Ultimate model has a digital display that shows the current tyre pressure in real time. Silca states that the accuracy is around one per cent. Users can set the desired target pressure between 0.2 and 6.9 bar at the touch of a button. The micro version does not require a pressure gauge and stops automatically at 5 bar (72 psi), which, according to the manufacturer, corresponds to the maximum pressure for modern hookless rims. Both models are compatible with both Presta and Schrader valves and can be combined with various Silca valve attachments.

Battery life

According to the manufacturer, the batteries of the Elettrico pumps should be sufficient for several tyre fillings. The Ultimate model corresponds to the capacity of more than nine CO2 cartridges and can be charged in around one hour. The Micro model has the capacity of more than three CO2 cartridges with a charging time of 20 minutes. The pump is charged using a USB-C cable. Silca also states that the pumps can be carried on aeroplanes.

Silca uses extruded and CNC-milled aluminium in the construction of its Elettrico pumps. This should not only increase durability, but also contribute to noise reduction and heat dissipation. Silca also emphasises the low-noise design of the pumps. They are said to be 4 to 8 decibels quieter than comparable models, and even quieter with the valve attached.
