Buying advice: Floor pumps for road bike tyres
Nothing works without air in the tyres. Buying a floor pump is therefore one of the first necessities in a road cyclist's life. Which floor pump is right for you depends on more than just the price.

The classic among floor pumps is undoubtedly the racing compressor from SKS. This iconic pump recently celebrated its 50th birthday. Generations of racing cyclists have used it to inflate their tyres. Thanks to its robust design, the easy-to-use brass valve head with replaceable rubber seal, the folding feet and the easy-to-read pressure display, the classic pressuriser is far from being a thing of the past.

Nevertheless, the racing compressor has to fend off numerous competitors. Even a cursory market check is almost overwhelmed by the huge range on offer. Topeak, for example, lists 14 different models, Lezyne offers ten, while BBB and Pro still have eight different floor pumps in their range. SKS also offers a dozen other floor pump models alongside its racing compressor. Determining the criteria for finding the perfect floor pump for you is not an easy task.

You can find the buying guide with these decision-making aids in the download area below:

  • Recommended all-round pumps: BBB, Lezyne, SKS, Specialised, Pro
  • Good pressure gauges: BBB, Blackburn, Fabric, Lezyne, Pro, Silca, SKS
  • For tubeless tyres: Bontrager, Extreme, Lezyne, Pedros, Pro, Rose, SKS, Specialised, Topeak
