The revised Canyon Aeroad from Mathieu van der Poel can be recognised by the slightly thicker seat knot. This is because the seatpost clamp is now integrated into the top tube, just like on the Ultimate. On the predecessor, it was located on the back of the seat tube between the seat stays.
The 28-year-old Dutchman's bike is the fastest in the peloton. Team-mate Jasper Philipsen, who has already won four stages of the 2023 Tour de France, also benefited from this. In the TOUR test, the Aeroad produced 202 watts at 45 km/h, just as fast is the Cervélo S5 of Tour de France favourite Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma).
In addition to the modified frame, Mathieu van der Poel's Canyon Aeroad is distinguished from the Aeroads of his team colleagues by other details: to match the white design, van der Poel sits on a colour-coordinated Selle Italia saddle with a carbon frame. A 3D logo with the Dutchman's initials is attached to the head tube.
For the flat stage from Dax to Nogaro, van der Poel opted for the 54/40 tooth chainring combination and a cassette with 11-34 gradation. The high-profile DT Swiss wheels are fitted with 28-millimetre-wide tubeless tyres from Vittoria. The all-rounder mounts its Wahoo computer in a 3D-printed holder.
