The new generation of the Aeroad launched in 2020 should be a great success for Canyon. The Koblenz-based manufacturer can hardly complain about the bike's prominence on the sporting stage. The Canyon Aeroad CFR couldn't be left out of the pro bike test.

Multi-talented Mathieu van der Poel has been the surprise of recent years, winning the 2020 Tour of Flanders on his bike, among others. In 2021, he rode six days in yellow at the Tour de France and won a stage. There is much to suggest that he will continue to shake up the racing action this year.

The TOUR wind tunnel test shows it to be the fastest bike currently in the World Tour peloton; the weight of 7.3 kilos is not too high for tough climbs. The stiffness values are also excellent and the comfort is unusually good for such a fast aero bike.

Canyon would have achieved a great success if it weren't for the design problems: Firstly, a broken handlebar on van der Poel led to sales of the bike being halted; a little later, there was a problem with the seat post, which rubbed against the seat tube after prolonged use of the bike. The handlebar unit is now to be replaced on all Aeroad models, but the problem with the seat post has not yet been solved. For the pros of the Alpecin-Fenix and Canyon-SRAM teams, this doesn't matter, but prospective buyers will still have to wait until the bike goes back on sale with design changes. Then the special edition in honour of Van der Poels in bright light blue could become a big hit.
