A year ago, the traditional Italian company Wilier presented the Zero SLR as a combination of lightweight construction and aerodynamics. The Zero SL that has now been presented can be described as a more affordable offshoot of the top model, which has been ridden by the Astana World Tour team since last season, as it is strongly modelled on the Zero SLR.
The frame geometry is identical, but the cheaper SL model has to make concessions in terms of carbon quality. The frame weighs 930 grams, while the Zero SLR frame only weighs 780 grams (size M). At 370 grams, the SL fork also weighs only 40 grams more than the fork on the professional bike.
All cables are routed internally. The new Stemma SL stem is designed to enable maintenance without having to remove the handlebars. The development of the seat post is also modelled on the SLR: the slim carbon monocoque seat post refers to the shortened rear profiles of the aerodynamic Wilier Triestina models Cento10PRO and Cento10NDR.
It is available in two versions, one without offset and one with 15 millimetre offset, both of which come with Ritchey's screw-in saddle clamp. It is attached to the frame by means of an expander housed inside the frame.
An exciting detail of the frame design: the asymmetrical chain stays. The left-hand stay, which is more inclined upwards in the direction of travel, is intended to prevent the force that the rider transfers to the chain from being deflected sideways.
The Zero SL is available in two colours, glittering grey-blue and matt black-red, as well as six sizes (from XS to XXL). According to Wilier, the tube sections in the various sizes have been designed so that stiffness, steering behaviour and comfort are the same for every frame size. Depending on the equipment, prices vary between 4,200 euros for the model with mechanical Ultegra and 6,000 euros with electronic shifting (Ultegra Di2 or Sram Force eTap AXS).
