Ten German riders took part in this year's Tour de France. Over the course of the three weeks, we will be presenting their racing bikes in detail. Today we are showing the BMC Teammachine R 01 of Marius Mayrhofer from the Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
The 24-year-old from Tübingen is not the only one celebrating his debut at the Tour of France this year. His Tudor team is also taking part in the most important Grand Tour for the first time. At the invitation of organiser A.S.O., who has issued the second-division team with a wild card. The Teammachine R, on the other hand, has already taken part in the world's most important cycling race: two years ago, the Swiss manufacturer equipped the AG2R Citroën team with it.
For difficult terrain, Mayrhofer can fall back on the somewhat lighter Teammachine SLR 01, which BMC officially presented shortly before the Tour de France. The manufacturer from Grenchen did not provide any information on its total weight. We had Mayrhofer's bike hanging on the scales at 7.3 kilograms.
The eye-catcher on the Teammachine R is the fork: both bars are flared, which BMC claims minimises air turbulence. We have not yet been able to measure the aerodynamics in the TOUR wind tunnel test, despite several invitations to ride the bike. The head tube and bottom bracket area are also longer and are based on the UCI regulations in force since 2021.
Tudor Pro Cycling and team boss Fabian Cancellara are the only team riding with Schwalbe tyres this year. Mayrhofer's model, which we photographed before the Grand Départ in Lille, was fitted with 28 millimetre Pro One TLE tyres. Mounted on carbon rims from DT Swiss.
