Vuelta Femenina 2024: That was stage 8

On the 8th and final stage from Madrid to Valdesqui, a 13-man breakaway group initially pulled away from the peloton, gaining a maximum lead of 1:45 minutes (kilometre 38). Around 20 kilometres before the finish, Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) made a solo breakaway attempt and was able to extend her 20-second lead over a main group including Demi Vollering to 1:20 minutes.

The final 12.8 kilometre climb was to decide the overall victory. With 9.5 kilometres to go, Karlijn Swinkels was caught by the main group, before Vollering broke away three kilometres later, leaving her rivals behind and unable to be caught again. The best German is Ricarda Bauernfeind (Canyon//Sram Racing), who is in sixth place overall, 04:33 minutes behind.
