Lots of mountains, but also at least five stages that are suitable for a bunch sprint. The route of the 2021 Vuelta a España is planned to be a little more balanced than in previous years. Nevertheless, the Tour of Spain remains primarily the terrain for climbers - with the showdown on the Alto d'El Garmoniteiru during the 18th stage. The climb is part of the Vuelta for the first time - it is particularly long and steep. A total of almost 42 kilometres of individual time trials have to be mastered: At the start of the tour in Burgos (8 km) and on the last day of the race on the way to the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela (33.7 km).
