How do the professional cyclists eat at the Tour de France? At selected points in the race, the riders are handed a food bag by the organisers. What are the rules and what do they eat?

The Sunweb team has unpacked its food bag for us. inside: 1 bottle of water
1 x bottle of carbohydrate drink
1 x can of cola
3 x energy bars 2 ready-to-drink gels
1 x caffeinated drink ampoule
2 x snack in aluminium foil (rice cakes etc.)

Catering at fixed locations:
Team supporters may only hand out refreshments on the right-hand side of the road. Catering is only permitted in designated zones along the stage. Waste may be disposed of at the beginning and end of the catering zone.

Catering during the race:
Catering by the team vehicle is permitted from 50 kilometres after the start until 20 kilometres before the finish. The race stewards may waive this rule if the weather or other circumstances require it. The riders must drop back for refreshments and ride next to the car of their sporting director.

If there is no sports director's car nearby, runaways may be catered for by the organiser's motorbike.

Rubbish may only be disposed of in the designated areas.
