In a two-minute image video, which begins with a kiss from Tour runner-up Jonas Vingegaard to the Danish fans, the organisers showed Copenhagen as a cycling city and quoted prominent Danish professional cyclists such as Olympic silver medallist Jakob Fuglsang. "In Copenhagen, people are crazy about bikes, not just for transport," said Fuglsang.
The start of the tour should actually have taken place in Copenhagen in 2021. But because the 2020 European Football Championships were postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the city was unable to organise both major sporting events within a short space of time. Four matches were played in Copenhagen during the European Championships.
In 2022, the Tour is scheduled to start on 1 July, with a rest day after three stages in Denmark and the subsequent transport to France. Where exactly it will continue after that will not be announced until the autumn. Jumbo-Visma pro Vingegaard, who surprisingly finished this Tour in second place behind Slovenia's winner Tadej Pogacar, comes at a favourable time for the Danes as a new hopeful.
