The 106th Tour of France will be marked by a special anniversary: 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the yellow jersey. The Tour de France starts from Brussels and covers 3,460 kilometres.

After the first stages in Belgium, the battle between the sprinters continues in Champagne and Lorraine before the climbers are called upon. The sixth stage ends with the climb to La Planche des Belles Filles. From the Vosges, the route leads over undulating terrain into the Massif Central, before the preliminary decisions are made in the Pyrenees. After an individual time trial over 27 kilometres in Pau - on 19 July, the day of the 100th anniversary of the yellow jersey - a climbing programme begins the following day. Five mountain stages have to be completed within a week, three of which end at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres. The Col du Tourmalet (2,115 metres) marks the start of the summit festival. The second week comes to an end at Foix Prat d'Albis. After the rest day, the peloton will make its way to the Alps, where the final two days before the finale in Paris are likely to decide the overall winner of the 2019 Tour de France with the finishes in Tignes (2,113 metres) and Val Thorens (2,365 metres).
