The 105th Tour de France promises some race-deciding stages: the cobblestone passages from the spring classic Paris-Roubaix, steep ramps with the legendary climbs in Alpe d'Huez, on the Tourmalet and on the Aubisque. In 2018, the Grand Départ will take place on the Atlantic island of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île in the Vendée region.
The Tour begins with a 199-kilometre flat stage to Fontenay-le-Comte. Kittel, who has dominated the sprints this year with five victories, could take the yellow jersey for the third time after 2013 and 2014.
