Team Lidl-Trek has a men's and a women's team in the World Tour and the Women's World Tour respectively. The men's team in particular has been strengthened in a big way with ten new additions for the 2024 season.
The most prominent signing is Tao Geoghegan Hart. The Briton won the 2020 Giro d'Italia and comes from Ineos Grenadiers. After his serious crash at the Tour of Italy 2023, in which he broke his hip, the 28-year-old is hoping to return to his glory days. The stage race specialist is set to Tour de France as captain.
He will be accompanied there by Mads Pedersen. The sprinting Danish road world champion from 2019 would like to repeat his stage win from 2023. The second prominent newcomer is top sprinter Jonathan Milan. The 23-year-old Italian was recruited by Bahrain-Victorious. This year, he won the points classification of the Giro d'Italia, one stage and finished second in four stages.
In 2024, Milan will once again contest the Giro d'Italia, but will also tackle the cobbled classics in the spring, starting with the so-called Opening Weekend (Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne). In addition, Pedersen and Jasper Stuyven have been earmarked as Lidl-Trek's spearheads for these races. Later in the year, Pedersen is also scheduled to tackle the Vuelta a Espana drive, where the Dane Mattias Skjelmose as captain for the overall standings.
The women's team for the Classics campaign will be led by Lizzie Deignan (winner of Paris-Roubaix Femmes 2021 and Tour of Flanders 2016), Elisa Longo Borghini (winner of Paris-Roubaix Femmes 2022 and Tour of Flanders 2015) and Elisa Balsamo, the 2021 road world champion. Ellen van Dijk, who is returning to the team after her maternity break, is also expected to be involved in the Classics.
In the three major national tours (Vuelta Feminina, Giro d'Italia Women and Tour de France Femmes), Deignan, Longo Borghini and the stage race specialist Gaia Realini (runner-up at the Giro and Vuelta in 2023) are seeded. Balsamo will also join the Lidl-Trek squad for the Giro and the Tour de France Femmes.
