Although only seven German professional cyclists are taking part in the 110th Tour de France, interest in the world's most important tour seems to be quite high in Germany.

According to a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, 23 per cent of Germans want to follow the race over the next three weeks.

12 per cent want to watch the Tour de France on television

According to the survey, 12 per cent want to follow the Tour live on television, 4 per cent prefer the live stream, 2 per cent want to use the live ticker on the Internet and 5 per cent regularly find out what is happening and who has won the stages.

In contrast, 70 per cent of Germans do not want to follow the Tour of France at all, which would not be unusual, however, in line with the TV ratings of previous years.

Good TV ratings for ARD

ARD enjoyed an unexpectedly high TV audience for the first two stages at the weekend, breaking the one million mark on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, an average of 1.30 million people watched the second stage on ARD, which, according to the broadcaster, corresponds to a market share of eleven per cent and was the most successful sports programme of the day. Eurosport is also broadcasting the Tour de France live.
