Under its new name, Team NSN can once again focus entirely on sport
Sprint squad: The renamed and newly formed Team NSN will focus primarily on supporting sprint ace Biniam Girmay during the Tour.

The team has been through a tough spell, though this is largely beyond its control. As Team Israel-Premier Tech, the squad found itself increasingly subjected to hostility from those critical of Israel, and racing operations were disrupted by political fallout. With a new sponsor, a new name and a new licence, the team can once again focus on the sport. They have also signed Biniam Girmay – the three-time stage winner and winner of the Tour’s Green Jersey, who has found his form again this year, performing somewhat better than he did recently.

This raises hopes of stage wins in the Tour, especially as the team as a whole is well-equipped with good sprinters and classics specialists. There isn’t really a rider in the general classification.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
