Following in the footsteps of Bora and Visma, Movistar is now trying its luck with top talent Cian Uijtdebroecks
Team Movistar embodies more than 45 years of successful cycling history, with numerous stage race victories to its name. However, the team has recently lacked a general classification rider to partner the ageing Nairo Quintana. The young Belgian Cian Uijtdebroecks is now set to fill that gap.

For the first time in seven years, the Movistar team will line up at the start of the Tour de France without Enric Mas. The Spaniard, now 31, who has finished second and third in the Vuelta and fifth and sixth in the Tour, has always lacked that final bit of luck and potential to make it onto the podium in France. Now it is the turn of the highly promising talent Cian Uijtdebroeks. The Belgian is only 23 years old, but has already gained experience with Bora-hansgrohe and Visma-Lease a Bike in the role of stage race hopeful. He may well form a sort of dual leadership with Iván Romeo, who is half a year his junior, at Movistar, a team that is otherwise likely to focus on winning stages. The team has plenty of well-known and experienced riders in its ranks for that very purpose.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
