The merged Intermarché-Wanty and Lotto team is still trying to find the right strategy
Two become one: the merger of two strong teams has not yet turned the new Lotto Intermarché squad into a top team. The next chance for a turnaround: the Tour de France.

The team, formed by the merger of Intermarché-Wanty and Lotto, has not had an easy start and needs some successes, even though Liam Slock caused quite a stir with his spectacular crash across the finish line to secure his first professional victory at the GP Gippingen in mid-June. A stage win at the Tour de France would come at just the right time. In Arnaud de Lie, the team has a strong contender for this. The Belgian is in his element on classic terrain and should not be underestimated, even in difficult sprint finishes. Georg Zimmermann, who was already a key asset for the Intermarché-Wanty team at last year’s Tour, will hopefully draw further motivation from his victory at Eschborn-Frankfurt in early May to have a say in the challenging stages in France. Lennert van Eetvelt is likely to be the man for the general classification; he has already shown that he is capable of competing in stage races.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
