Jai Hindley was born in Perth, Australia, in 1996 and began his professional cycling career in 2016 with Continental team Attaque Team Gusto. He joined Team Sunweb, now Team DSM-Firmenich, via Team Mitchelton-Scott in 2018 and rode for them until 2021. In 2022, he then switched to the German team Bora-Hansgrohe, with whom he is still under contract today.

Jai Hindley: The greatest successes

Hindley is a mountain specialist and is regarded as an excellent classics rider. Especially in the Giro d'Italia the Australian has enjoyed great success: In 2020, he finished second in the overall standings, celebrating a stage win and finishing on the podium two more times. Two years later, he enjoyed his greatest success to date in the Tour of Italy: he celebrated overall victory in 2022 after beating his rival in the 20th stage at Passo Fedaia. Richard Carapaz and subsequently took the lead in the overall classification. The Australian thus secured the first overall victory for the German team Bora-Hansgrohe in one of the three Grand Tours. In addition to the overall classification, he also won stage 9 of the 2022 Giro. In the same year, Hindley reached the Vuelta a Espana a top placing with 10th place overall.

Hindley was the first Australian overall winner of the Giro d'Italia in 2022 and was subsequently named Cyclist of the Year in his home country. He took over from BMX freestyle rider Logan Martin.

In 2023, Hindley won stage 5 in Laruns on his first participation in the Tour de France, where he also took the overall leader's yellow jersey.
