Berlin (dpa) - Tim Zühlke is to become the new national track cycling coach in the men's endurance category. The 42-year-old will take over from Sven Meyer, who has held the position since May 2011, on 1 January 2022, the German Cycling Federation (BDR) announced.

Zühlke was most recently a successful junior national coach at the BDR. He led the four-man track cycling team to the 2019 and 2021 World Championship titles. Now he also wants to build on his former success with the men's team.

"I will continue on the path that Sven Meyer has taken and possibly go one better," said the 42-year-old, who was a professional track cyclist himself. In 1997, he was runner-up in the junior world championships in the 1000 metre time trial.
