The Tour de France cost Georg Zimmermann a lot of energy. Afterwards, he fell into a kind of hole, feeling tired and broken. He is back just in time for the start of the Deutschland Tour.

Professional cyclist Georg Zimmermann experienced an unprecedented low after his third participation in the Tour de France. "I've never come out of a Grand Tour so exhausted," the 25-year-old told the German Press Agency. On Wednesday, the Augsburg rider will start at the Deutschland Tour.

After the Tour of France, he had experienced a kind of hole. "I was very tired and exhausted," he added. "I let it go for a while, listened to my body and gave it the regeneration it needed after the Tour de France." He has been feeling better for about ten days now.

The Augsburg native is enjoying his best career year to date. He won a stage at the Tour of the Dauphine and finished second on the tenth stage of the Tour de France. At the Deutschland Tour, which starts on Wednesday, the climbing specialist is also counted among the favourites for the podium due to his fourth and fifth place in the past.
