Gesamtsieger der 61. Baskenland-Rundfahrt: Daniel Felipe Martinez.

The Colombian professional cyclist Daniel Felipe Martinez has won the 61st Tour of the Basque Country.

With a fourth place on the sixth and final stage over 135.7 kilometres from Éibar to Arrate, the 25-year-old ousted the young Belgian star Remco Evenepoel from first place. Second overall was the Spaniard Ion Izagirre, who also won the final stage, followed by the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov from the German Bora-hansgrohe team.

Meanwhile, there are concerns for Dutchman Milan Vader. The team-mate of Olympic champion Primoz Roglic is still in an induced coma following his serious crash on Friday. This was reported in the Spanish media on Saturday, citing the team and hospital spokespeople. Vader crashed on a descent during the fifth stage and was thrown over the crash barrier.

The media in Spain and the Netherlands reported that Vader underwent immediate surgery at the hospital in Barakaldo near Bilbao because the accident had affected his carotid arteries, among other things. According to the hospital, the athlete had also broken his collarbone, shoulder blade and several vertebrae. His condition is very serious. Jumbo-Visma did not want to officially disclose any details for the time being, but stated that Vader's condition was stable.
