"This is a good signal for the upswing in cycling in our country. Especially on the track, athletes from our association have celebrated great successes in recent years. Kristina Vogel's Olympic victory at the Rio Games is an explicit example of this," commented BDR President Rudolf Scharping on the world federation's decision.
The European Track Championships will take place in the velodrome in 2017, a World Cup will be held in 2018, the German Championships in 2019 and the World Championships a year later, which will also be the final qualifying event for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The last Track World Championships in Germany were held in Stuttgart in 2003.
