Multiple world champions Emma Hinze and Lea Sophie Friedrich reached the semi-finals in the supreme sprint discipline. This means that at least one German rider will be on the podium. The decision will be made on Wednesday.
Friedrich even defeated the reigning world champion Mathilde Gros in two runs in the quarter-finals, successfully taking revenge. Last year, the 23-year-old lost the sprint final against the Frenchwoman at the title fights in Paris. Hinze also won both of her runs against Liying Yuan from China with ease. Team-mate Pauline Grabosch, on the other hand, finished in the round of 16.
Hinze, Friedrich and Grabosch had won gold with the team for the fourth time in a row at the start last Thursday. Hinze then also won gold in the 500 metre time trial, in which Friedrich finished third. Friedrich also took bronze in the keirin.
