The three team sprint world champions Lea Sophie Friedrich, Emma Hinze and Pauline Grabosch are in the sprint round of 16. There was no further medal for the German track cycling team on Monday.

Team sprint world champions Lea Sophie Friedrich, Emma Hinze and Pauline Grabosch have reached the round of 16 in the individual sprint on the track at the World Championships in Glasgow.

Friedrich had a bye after finishing third in qualifying, while Hinze and Grabosch won their heats with ease. The trio had won gold with the team for the fourth time in a row at the start last Thursday. The supreme discipline continues on Tuesday with the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

There were no medals for the German track cyclists on the fifth day of competition. Franziska Brauße, runner-up in the individual pursuit, rode to eleventh place in the madison with Lea Lin Teutenberg. The British riders Neah Evans and Elinor Barker were victorious. Teutenberg's younger brother Tim Torn also came away empty-handed in the elimination race; in the end, the European champion also had to settle for eleventh place. Britain's Ethan Vernon caused a huge cheer when he first crashed and then dethroned cycling star Elia Viviani from Italy, who finished third, as world champion. Canadian Dylan Bibic came second.

Track Cycling World Championships 2023: Sprint king Harrie Lavreysen

The men's sprint king remains the Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen, who won the title for the fifth time in a row. He beat Nicholas Paul from Trinidad and Tobago in the final.
