Justyna Czapla and Emil Herzog won medals number two and three for the German Cycling Federation (BDR) at the World Cycling Championships in Wollongong, Australia.
Firstly, Czapala won silver in the junior individual time trial. The 18-year-old was only beaten by Zoe Backstedt from Great Britain, who averaged 45.895 km/h on the 14.1-kilometre course and beat the German by 1:36 minutes. The battle for the bronze medal was much closer.
This went to Febe Jooris from Belgium, who lost 1:49 minutes to Backstedt and was less than a second ahead of the fourth-placed Czech Eliska Kvasnickova.
The next medal for Germany followed a few hours later. Emil Herzog won bronze in the junior individual time trial. Joshua Tarling from Great Britain won gold with an average speed of 49.395 km/h over 28.8 kilometres. Second place went to the Australian Hamish McKenzie, followed by the 17-year-old Herzog in third place, 33 seconds behind.
So far, Germany has won a total of three medals at the championships in Australia, which have been running since Sunday. Ricarda Bauernfeind was responsible for the first medal, who won bronze in the U23 class in the individual time trial.
The Cycling World Championships in Australia will continue on Wednesday with the team time trial of the mixed competitions.
