The organisers announced the start location in Clermont-Ferrand on Monday, while the men's Tour took a rest day there. Further details on the routes will be published on 25 October.
In addition to the Grand Départ in the harbour city, two more of the eight stages will be held in the Netherlands before the riders move on to France. The major cycling event takes place right between the Olympic Games in Paris and the Paralympics.
This year, the women will cover more than 956 kilometres in the Tour, which runs from 23 to 30 July 2023. The start of the tour will be in Clermont-Ferrand. The winner will be crowned a week later in Pau. One of the highlights on the penultimate stage is the mountain finish on the legendary Pyrenean giant Tourmalet.
Before its comeback two years ago, the previous version of the Women's Tour was organised from 1984 to 2009. However, the tour became less and less important after it had been organised under different names since 1989.
