Never before has women's cycling been on TV as much as in 2022, but the first viewer figures for women's races on Eurosport are sobering.

Taken together across all eight live races evaluated on Eurosport 1, the broadcasts reached 0.88 million viewers in Germany (net reach*).

The average viewing figures for the eight races (Nokere Koerse, Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallone, Gent Wevelgem, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Paris-Roubaix, Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders) average 46,000 viewers - the market share is 0.4 per cent among viewers aged three and over.

The greatest viewer interest was at the Tour of Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race, each with an average of just under 70,000 viewers (total target group Z3+). The women's classic Paris-Roubaix, which had the longest broadcast duration at 2:15 hours, reached a total of 334,000 viewers (net reach) - the average viewing figures were 46,000 viewers - which corresponds to the average fan base at Eurosport for the women's races.

Incidentally, anyone who believes that women's races are mostly watched by women is wrong - because only one in four spectators is female (26 per cent female share).

However, there is already a season highlight on the horizon that is expected to generate significantly higher odds: the Tour de France Femmes will be broadcast on Eurosport from 24 to 31 July.
