Olympic team sprint champion René Wolff becomes coach of the Dutch national track sprint team for the second time.
The 43-year-old from Erfurt will take over from Hugo Haak, who announced his retirement in autumn 2021, on 1 February. "I consider it an honour to be able to continue Hugo's work," Wolff was quoted as saying on the association's website.
The Dutch sprinters have set the standard in the men's cycling for years. Harrie Lavreysen won gold and bronze twice at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Shanne Braspennincx was Olympic champion in the keirin.
Wolff had already worked as a sprint coach for the Dutch association KNWU from the beginning of 2010 until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 2004 Olympic team sprint champion and 2005 sprint world champion then moved to the Dutch NOC before working as national coach in New Zealand from mid-2018 until the end of 2021. He resigned from his position there in December.
