The 29-year-old from Ravensburg seems to be in good form ahead of the climb to the 1207 metre high mountain finish in the Black Forest.
"I would say it's okay," said Buchmann. He didn't feel bad on the second stage to Marburg on Friday. But a climb over eleven kilometres is something completely different.
Buchmann, who had to cancel his start at the Vuelta that started a week ago due to an infection and is instead competing in the home stage, is 17 seconds behind the overall leader Alberto Bettiol from Italy going into the 148.9 kilometre penultimate stage of the day in Freiburg.
Instead of the Vuelta, Buchmann could at least slip into the overall leader's red jersey at the five-day Spanish replacement on home soil.
Defending champion Nils Politt also believes in the good form of his Bora-Hansgrohe team-mate. "I think Emu Buchmann has a real chance up towards Schauinsland," said the rider from Cologne. Politt himself goes into the stage 3:09 minutes behind and will have to limit his hopes to a one-day win in the final stage in Stuttgart on Sunday.
