As the French racing team Cofidis announced, Walscheid was signed up by rival Qhubeka, which was on the brink of collapse. "I want to play a good role in the classics and take part in the grand tours," said Walscheid. The 28-year-old is strong in both sprints and time trials and also finished twelfth in Paris-Roubaix at the beginning of October. "I know that I can achieve a strong result there and that is one of my big goals."
The Heidelberg native has made great progress in recent years, particularly in the battle against the clock. In June, he finished second behind Tony Martin at the German championships and is considered the best German time trialist following the four-time world champion's retirement. Walscheid has celebrated eleven victories in his professional career to date, but has been waiting for a win since February 2020.
