The wife of Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard has rejected emerging doubts about her husband's performance and made an unusual suggestion.
"We have values in our family that you don't cheat," Trine Hansen told Ekstra Bladet on the subject of doping. "We would like the blood samples to be kept for 50 years, because they would still be clean." Vingegaard won the Tour de France for the second time on Sunday in Paris.
The 26-year-old had already emphasised during the Tour that he can understand scepticism about his performance due to his cycling past. "I would never take anything that I wouldn't give to my daughter," said Vingegaard. And he would certainly never give her any doping agents.
Vingegaard will probably leave his native Denmark. The Jumbo pro still lives near his home town of Glyngøre on the Danish mainland. "We can't live in Denmark, because unfortunately there are no mountains there. So we have to deal with that," said Hansen. Until now, she and her daughter Trine have often travelled with Vingegaard. "But now she's getting to an age where she needs stability in everyday life and playmates." A move to Switzerland is on the cards.
First of all, Vingegaard will celebrate extensively in Denmark. The Tour winner lands in Copenhagen on Wednesday. From Kastrup Airport, he will travel in a convertible to the city centre to City Hall Square. At 1.30 p.m., Vingegaard will take to the City Hall balcony and will probably be celebrated by tens of thousands, just like last year.
On Thursday, he will travel to Glyngøre, where he was welcomed by 20,000 fans last year. After a period of rest, Vingegaard will begin his preparations for the Tour of Spain, which he will contest from 26 August.
