The court fell short of the prosecution's sentence. However, Judge Marion Tischler stated in her judgement that S. was the "head of the doping system" and that he was proven to have committed commercial doping in 24 cases and dangerous bodily harm in one case. Mark S., formerly team doctor for the professional teams Gerolsteiner and Milram, was also banned from practising medicine for three years. He must also pay back 158,000 euros that he had earned through doping. The doping doctor's clients included numerous winter sports athletes and cyclists such as Stefan Denifl, Georg Preidler, Alessandro Petacchi and Danilo Hondo.
As an assistant, Dieter Q., who according to the judgement was "only a bag supplier" for the blood doping, received a prison sentence of two years and four months. The nurse Diana S. received a suspended sentence of one year and four months. The paramedic Sven M. and Ansgard S., the father of the main defendant, were sentenced to fines.
In her judgement, Judge Marion Tischler emphasised that the legislator had made a "clear appeal" to prosecutors and courts in the fight against doping with the anti-doping law. The proceedings in Munich were the first major court case relating to elite sport since the law was introduced at the end of 2015.
The judgements are not yet legally binding.
