Van Vleuten had already won the race in 2018 and 2019. "All victories are always special and have a different meaning," said the Dutchwoman after her triumph.
"After the victories in 2018 and 2019, it is a great pleasure to be back in pink three years later and I am very proud of what we are achieving together with the Movistar team," added the proud winner of the Giro Donne.
Van Vleuten won two of the ten stages. The 39-year-old from Team Movistar Women took her first stage win on the fourth stage in Cesena. There she also took the overall leader's pink jersey, which she would not relinquish until the end. Van Vleuten also won stage 8 on the way to Aldeno.
